First of all, your home has to be reinforced to carry the extra weight of a cement tile roof. So, usually unless you reinforce your structure to carry this weight it is too much weight for a standard structure to carry. But, once you do this, the main advantage is that your home will not catch fire from the roof from embers traveling through the air. It could still catch fire from embers hitting the sides of your home or setting on fire shrubbery adjacent to your home but not from the roof.
Another advantage we found out about after the fact. The previous owner of our home had a large tree fall across the roof (Likely a large pine tree because of where we live in a forest). And though the pine tree broke some of the cement tiles it didn't damage the roof at all because of how well built it was in the first place. Also, if you live in California where there are earthquakes, as long as your home is tied to the foundation properly with Rebar your home is unlikely to ever be thrown off the foundation either especially because it is well built enough to carry a cement tile roof. There are also now solar cell cement tile roofs so when you build your home you can have solar energy built right into your cement tile roofs too.
