It's raining out pretty Good right now on the coast and snowing over the Sierras

It looks like it will rain all night. It began a few hours ago now, Monday night. It's just after midnight now into Tuesday. I checked and it's still raining. I checked the Atmospheric River and it's now raining in a band from about Santa Barbara to San Francisco over to Fresno and also snowing above about 5000 or 6000 feet in the Sierras too. But, even though it is an Atmospheric River it is also a very beneficial storm for California too bringing rain but not too heavy of rain but I wouldn't want to be driving over the Sierras likely right now.

**For Eastbound Traffic:

Chains are required on all vehicles except 4-wheel-drive vehicles with snow tires on all 4 wheels from Kingvale (Placer Co) to the Donner Lake Interchange (Nevada Co)

**For Westbound Traffic

Chains are required on all vehicles except 4-wheel-drive vehicles with snow tires on all 4 wheels from the Donner Lake Interchange (Nevada Co) to 4.7 mi west of Kingvale (Placer Co)

Please research chain control locations as Caltrans is currently working to update chain control descriptions for consistency with internet mapping, like Google Maps & Mapquest

Eastbound trucks are being screened at Applegate (Placer Co) - Drivers must have maximum chains in their possession in order to proceed - Permit loads are prohibited

Westbound trucks are being screened 5 mi west of Reno /at Mogul/ (Washoe Co) - Drivers must have maximum chains in their possession in order to proceed - Permit loads are prohibited

All westbound trucks are required to stop at the brake check area 0.5 mi west of Nyack (Placer Co) - To reduce the risk of brake fires
