A few years ago I did the research on this and I realized that all Putin would have to do is to bomb every nuclear power plant east of the Mississippi River and no one could live there (east of the mississippi) for several hundred years or longer.
The other problem with nuclear power plants is that the spent nuclear waste isn't safe ANYWHERE on earth and never will be. I suppose you could sent nuclear waste into the Sun which likely be the best outcome we presently can imagine. But, short of this there is no safe place above or below ground to put nuclear waste.
For example, Fukushima nuclear power plant had 3 meltdowns caused by the 2011 Tsunami and Earthquake there.
As a direct result nuclear radiation will be going into the ocean from the ground water underground for 25,000 to 50,000 years. There is no realistic way to permanently stop it. On top of this, one of the 3 meltdowns as Weapons Grade Plutonium which has a half life of 25,000 years. So, because of this radiation will continue from that meltdown more than 25,000 years into the future with no presently useful way to stop this. It wouldn't be technically feasible to dig down and retrieve these meltdowns either because everyone would die trying to do this also.
So, nuclear power never has been safe and likely never will be safe to use either. This is a given.
People who tell you otherwise are lying to you or to themselves or both.
