Water doesn't put out Fires on Lithium Ion Batteries of the kind you find in Teslas and other EV units both trucks and cars

Because of this plus the fact that when they burn they can make people sick or die from the fumes coming off these fires it is very problematic to deal with these batteries at ANY stage after they catch fire in the first place. Even if you put out a Lithium Ion battery fire  you have no real confidence that it will stay out. And even if you get it to stay out you have no confidence that it won't poison air and ground and groundwater or plants that people eat in the area like Lettuce for example, grown near the Moss Landing Battery storage plant that is on fire about once every 3 months so far.

The idea of this battery storage plant was to store great amounts of electricity for emergencies like during the summer when there are rolling blackouts and then sell this electricity back to the grid all over the country.

However, the net effect right now of this battery storage plant is that people have gotten sick in the area of Moss Landing and one also wonders if plants like lettuce or artichokes grown in this area have been poisoned or not or even if they are safe to eat at all for people.

This is one of the many reasons why Monterey County which is the county in California that the battery storage facility is in has declared an Emergency for the County to try to assess just how bad this is on many different levels.

Regarding Teslas and EVs (both trucks and cars) burning in Los Angeles County fires they are having the same problem of Air and water and ground pollution and now there is rain of this pollution from all the Lithium Ion batteries washing into the ocean.

I fact, after the rains the last couple of days they are telling people not to swim or surf in the ocean because of all the various kinds of poisons and pollutants including sewage and hazardous chemicals washing into the ocean from all the fires, especially in Pacific Pallisades and Malibu which are right there on the ocean.

So, one wonders if it is even safe to eat fish caught off the coast of Malibu and Pacific Palisades and Santa Monica right now either?
