I was interested in what a Russian lady working on the Poop Cruise on Netflix had to say

She was talking about how (Not prepared for a real crisis) that Americans on the Trainwreck: Poop Cruise on Netflix were. This is a documentary of a real cruise ship disaster by the way that happened on Carnival Triumph where power was lost on the ship and it drifted and poop and pee went everywhere down halls and everywhere on the ship because the septic system needed pumps and the pumps needed electricity to operate.

What she had to say was that "Nothing is working here at all which is what the Soviet Union was like with no food, no electricity and nothing working at all. However, we all just dealt with the problems and survived as best as we could."

I think that's a good description of people who were there partying as spoiled Americans and not prepared for this serious poop adventure with no air conditioning and no bathrooms functional and who didn't want to have to poop in red plastic bags so they took Imodium to prevent them having to defecate for as long as possible.

I remember in 1960 when I was 12 in a Yacht Race to Ensenada, Mexico from the Los Angeles area and because there were 3 TWA airline pilots and my father and I on board for the race we just as men peed over the side of the ship and used a bucket for number 2 and then rinsed the bucket out with sea water so that's how we dealt with the whole bathroom thing while in the race.

But, obviously, on a Cruise ship people expect more and in this case they got much less like 6 days without bathrooms with everything smelling like poop and pee everywhere except on the top deck where they dragged their mattresses up to to not die of heat prostration between Mobile, Alabama and Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico as they drifted without any power on board for many days. But, at least they didn't starve because they had enough emergency rations after all the perishable foods spoiled from no refrigeration.

They showed a picture of how ALL the main electrical cables all burned and fused together so there was no way to repair all the electrical damage to the ship so literally nothing electrical worked for many days until the ship dead in the water was towed by tugboats to Mobile, Alabama many days later.

They showed a charred mass of what looked to be about 3 feet deep of main electrical cables that could not be replaced until they got to the right port to repair them which looks like it was Mobile, Alabama.

The likely diesel Engines that run the ship became useless because you likely had no rudder working because that is usually electrical assist or even electrical to hydraulic in order to even steer the ship at all.

So, rather than drive the ship in circles without any control at all it likely was safer to just be dead in the water where you wouldn't sink the ship accidentally on debris like logs or other ships in the ocean.

Though theoretically a diesel engine might run with out power on a ship that big likely you needed electricity to pump the fuel from the tanks to the diesel engines so that made them not work too.

So, this was a complete clusterf--- of epic proportions affecting the lives of over 3000 people on board this cruise ship.
