Because my father and my grandfather were both good storytellers. Before radio and TV this is how people entertained themselves for thousands of years. The experiences were all true. However, it's sort of like the word HISTORY which is really HIS STORY which in the end could be anything depending upon the person.
However, I try to be faithful to whatever happens to me in life. But, of course each of us sees reality through our own experiences in life. No one is right and no one is wrong. We all just experience according to how we grew up and how we receive and share information in our lives.
But, I do have to say, I'm not an editor. I don't claim to be one. I'm more of a storyteller than anything else much like my father and my grandfather and I likely come from a very long line of storytellers that likely goes back thousands and thousands of years in various different languages. For example, my ancestors are from Zurich, Switzerland as of the early 1700s and came to Philadelphia for religious freedom. So, this also influences my writing too in an oblique kind of way.
the point of all of this is that each of you as writers are going to be different than the other one because each of us can only really write from the perspective that we were raised with wherever we grew up on earth. So, it might be helpful to write about what you actually know about in real life experiences unless of course you are letting everyone know right up front that what you are writing is all fantasy not based upon any particular reality here in this physical world.
