Because dry washes aren't always dry in the monsoon seasons which is why they look like Dry Riverbeds which they are. So, even though they are inviting you don't want to walk in them this time of year because if there are any clouds at all within 50 miles of where you are you could be swept up without warning of any kind except maybe a little swishing sound as the water comes up behind you and washes you and your group of people away.
It's possible 20 people or more might have been washed away in Grand Canyon in the last few days too.
So, any time you are in the deserts where it is raining within 50 miles of you can be life threatening if you are in or near a Dry Wash in the Deserts of the southwest.
Or in the case of the Colorado River this can happen anytime of year but most likely during monsoon season which last through September there as you can see by the potentially 20 people or more missing there in the Grand canyon now.
The problem is that when it rains hard in the deserts this time of year there is nothing to stop the water at all really except maybe a few cactuses or Mesquite bushes and things like Cholla Bushes which don't really stop the water at all.
So, when the rain falls fast it then moves fast and hits where you are without any warning at all. So, don't tempt fate especially if there are rain clouds within 50 miles of where you are in the deserts during monsoon season anywhere in the southwestern Deserts of California, Arizona, New Mexico and West Texas especially.
