Simple ways to help prevent identity theft

First of all it is important to know that the ideal candidate for identity theft is usually in two categories depending upon "WHY" people want to steal or use your identity. If it is an illegal alien wanting to "legally" work in the U.S. they just want the name and Social Security number of a child who isn't using their social security number because they haven't started working regularly yet. Knowing this can be helpful in keeping out of sight your children's number or Social Security Card.

The second reason people want an identity is to take whatever money they can from your accounts. One of the ways to prevent identity theft is by shredding all documents with your name and address on them. Though this takes a lot of time it is necessary to prevent identity theft through trash. So, my wife and I shred every name tag on every catalog or junk mail or regular mail that comes through our mail or on a package. By doing this is it one less way to have your identity stolen.

However, it might also be important to know that the ideal identity to steal for a criminal worldwide is a college student with their first ATM/Credit Card. This is because they are not knowledgeable yet about how all this works completely which makes them potentially so vulnerable to identity theft. So, if you have a student in college the more they know about this the better in order to protect their identities, especially if you do the funding of this account or accounts.
