If you click on the map it will enlarge and depicts what will happen the next Arc storm California receives. You notice that a great deal of the Sacramento Valley and the San Joaquin Valley become sort of lakes for 6 months or longer with water from about 20 miles wide and 300 miles long along the path of the Sacramento River including Sacramento being underwater as well. In 1862 the water just in Sacramento kept the whole area flooded for 6 months and bankrupted the state and turned the state from a cattle state to a farming state during this year. the Capitol had to be moved from Sacramento by boat to San Francisco which is small mountains on a peninsula on the coast of California.
This happens every 150 to 300 years in California like clockwork. And so we are now due for another one. So, being prepared for this might be important, and if you are in the market for land or houses, or commercial property you might not want to buy in a flood plain anywhere in California for this reason. Because this isn't an IF it is ONLY a When.
Because of the looks of this "Biggest El Nino likely in history forming now in the Pacific, it could be that our next Arc Storm could arrive as early as next winter. The last one came with 40 days or more of rain from around December through January and February.
One description of a man traveling upriver on a steamboat named "Gem" recalled his trip to Redding from somewhere near the San Francisco Bay by Steamboat during this flood in 1862. He said they were picking up men stranded in the tops of trees and from the tops of barns because the Sacramento river all the way to Redding was 20 miles wide or more.
Most of San Francisco will be okay because it is on small mountains but cities like Sacramento and parts of the Greater Los Angeles area will be underwater for some time in a repeat of the 150 to 300 year historic Arc floods that hit California regularly down through history.
