Drought affects all areas of California differently

How has the drought affected me on the Northern California Coast?

The biggest difference for me is I can only water my front and back yard before 9 am and After 5 pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays and everyone I know is being gouged in water prices  now. Luckily I can afford to pay this to keep some of my plants and trees alive. But many are not as lucky as I am.

For example, I have two beautiful Scotch heather plants in the front yard but one is mostly dying because the water just isn't enough. it is the one exposed to more of the direct sunlight when it is out.

The other plant I worry about is a Rhododendrun which is the national Flower of Nepal. I was there in 1985 and 1986 in Nepal. My pine trees in the front yard which I planted at different times in the front yard since around 1999 are all now between 5 and 25 feet high, depending upon when I planted them and all are doing well.

But, most of the ferns that grow naturally here in the forests of this area are not doing as well even if I water them as much as I can.

My cousin was paid 20,000 dollars by his county to take out all his southern California lawn which were beautiful and replace them with low water desert foliage. Though I know he was sad to do this on 1 acre of land the only other alternative was to have a completely brown and dead 1/2 acre of land of dead lawn.

Inland away from the coasts where San Francisco, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and San Diego all are the problem is water itself. There is little to none. So, many farms either aren't working and growing at all or they are sucking up deep well water and causing the land to sink at 2 inches per month. So, if and when it floods we are going to have some pretty deep new temporary ponds and lakes because of this where water may not drain off for months at a time when it floods next likely from the Godzilla El Nino with water as warm as 90 degrees Fahrenheit in the Pacific Ocean.

So, basically what I'm saying here is along the coast people have enough water. Sacramento has enough water because of the Sacramento River and the same for Stockton. But, most other places not along a big river like the Sacramento are pretty dry inland. And there there are all the deserts "mostly the large Mohave Desert that stretches from Palm Springs on into Borrego and towards Arizona and Las Vegas. And then it is somewhat desertified From Death Valley on up the back side of the Sierras and on into Nevada. So, it isn't just California that is having a drought, it is affecting California, Nevada, Oregon, Washington British Columbia and many other Western States.
