One of the harder things to get used to is you don't pay tips generally speaking. So, whatever your restaurant bill is that's it. Also, if you are going to go into a store to buy something, whatever you see listed as the price also includes taxes already. So, not tax is added to whatever price you see listed on items. Everything is built around "Saving Face" which is very important in South Korean culture. So, for example, no child ever receives less than a "C" in anything. So, I guess it is definitely possible for kids to graduate high school who cannot read. Also only A and B level students ever go to college unless they are fairly rich and can afford private schools or to send their kids to college in the U.S. or another country. This is still true in Europe and most of the rest of the world too.
However, they make it a point to have their children learn English and Chineses in pubic Schools and the public schools are run by the Federal Government. So, all these things are very interesting too.
Also, we rented a Hyundai Santa Fe 4wd diesel SUV on Jeju Island because there were 4 of us and one child. This is a really great car because it has the european non-stinky European technology in regard to it's diesel engine. Also, it is very quiet also like European Diesel cars. Also, it had the same kind of technology where the engine stops running when you stop at a traffic signal or for any reason. When this happened on a Diesel powered Mercedes I rented in London in 2011 at first I thought they had given me a lemon when it "died" at a traffic signal. But, as soon as I touched the accelerator pedal it started right up again. My friend who was driving on Jeju was freaked out by this like I was until I told him this was European Diesel Technology and how it worked to conserve fuel.
Also, when you travel internationally you are usually going to land at Incheon Airport which is an Island right off the coast of South Korea joined by bridges. But, when you want to fly to Jeju island you fly from Gimpo Airport near downtown Seoul, South Korea.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
