This is a CBS News Poll:
All Americans 36% presently favor this and 58% oppose this
Republicans 54% favor and 38% oppose this
So, Americans as a group are well traveled and open minded and have read the Bill of Rights and Constitution and so they oppose banning Muslims because the U.S. always has been about Freedom of Worship and freedom of religion since the Pilgrims in 1620.
However, Most Republicans are white people who live in the country and haven't traveled the world and haven't been to college. So, this stance is from people mostly who have never met a Muslim or maybe even a black person in their whole lives.
So, the world needs to understand that it is only Republicans that are in a majority regarding this stance.
And literally all Republican Leaders with the exception of Trump and Carson are pretty horrified by this stance of Republicans because it makes them look really uneducated and shallow as a party.
However, people who have met Muslims and actually talked to them tend to be Democrats because in general Democrats tend to travel the world more because they are more open minded along with the richer Republicans.
IF you pander to the fears of people who only know other white Christians then you are going to have problems like this. I think the whole world understands when people haven't traveled the world and been brave enough to meet people from other cultures they are naturally going to recoil in fear of anything different than they know. You see this all over the world. And many many people die from these unrealistic fears worldwide every single day.
