One of the bi-products of the Sectarian war between Shiite Muslims and Sunni Muslims that is getting worse by the day throughout the middle East is the almost total purge of all Christians in Syria and Iraq. So, likely if Christians want to be safer they have to go now to places like Lebanon where there are a higher percentage of Christians than most other Middle Eastern nations. The only Christians that appear to be safe at all in Iraq or Syria, for example, seem to be under the Protection of the Kurds. Because Assad and the Iraqi government are not capable or interested in protecting Christians at all for now.
This also leads me to wonder why Russia, a Christian nation whose Russian Orthodox Church has declared a holy war in Syria is protecting Assad?
The only reason Putin is protecting Assad has nothing to do with religion. It has to do with keeping Tartus, the Russian port in Syria which is a warm water port.
