I've noticed that some people are removing their straps entirely. I wouldn't do this because I often hike in them. In the winter especially I can walk on trails that might be 6 inches underwater with crocs. No problem. I've done this many times. I wear them to the beach and if it is still warm enough that season I take them off and walk barefoot on the beaches within a mile of where I live on the Northern California coast. So, whether I'm walking through streams in redwood forests with Bracken Ferns or walking along the beach or fording bigger rivers or streams in the Mt. Shasta area I really enjoy Crocs a lot. But, just remember they might be slippery in the rain. And in some conditions you might want firmer ankle support depending upon what kind of hiking or climbing you are doing at the time.
So, if you want to hike in Crocs you might want to leave the straps for when you go up steep hills so you don't "Fall out" of your crocs. Also, be careful when you cross streams and stuff because if you aren't careful one of your crocs will come off your foot and float away. So, you have to be careful how you move fording a stream with crocs on.
