This is the time of year when fires can be their worst state wide here in California

And it just makes it worse with all the high temperatures too because this tends to generate more winds which can blow the fires faster and further like the fire up near Chico that was burning 5000 acres an hour.

When any fire is burning that many acres it usually means the winds are 50 to 70 miles per hour. At winds this speed the fire is moving around a mile a minute on the winds. The embers are blowing and starting new fires a block away one second and then a block past that the next second. This is how you get to 5000 acres per hour burning usually.

The biggest thing is if something like that is coming towards you you try to not travel downwind of that fire if you can help it. So, for example, if the winds were traveling south you would likely want to go east or west so you are no longer downwind of that fire. So, learning the direction the fire is being blown is one of the ways you can stay alive during something like this by going in a different direction than where the fire is being blown.

If you go downwind of a fire like this often you or your loved ones are going to have some bad burns to say the least.
