Didn't expect the day to be this exciting!

Went to bed last night thinking that there would be a lot of wind and rain but wasn't prepared for a Large Tree slamming into our deck from next door. I went out about just after first light this morning around 6:30 or 7 to find a neighbors tree (a big one) had crashed through our fence and broken the railing around our hot tub. It was quite a mess. Luckily, our landscapers do trees too so within a couple of hours they had cleaned up the mess from the fallen tree and broken wooden fence enough so our dog could go out without wandering into our neighbors yard through the large hole in the fence. It's very lucky it missed the house because that would have been very expensive to fix. So, now there are piles of wood in sections of our back yard where they cut up the large pine tree and branches. Strange thing to wake up to.

I didn't hear it come down because I was asleep but my wife heard something come down and hit our deck around 6 am this morning.

Later: this is now 2:45 pm on Saturday and the winds have calmed down from the 33 mph constant winds with 50 mile per hour gusts with rain since midnight Friday night. MY wife was able to get a hold of our landscaper and the pine tree that came down was huge (2 to 3 feet across at the base and very tall. I was very surprised it came this way because looking at it before I always thought if is came down it would have gone the other way (falling towards the south not the north like it did).

Our landscaper's crew already cleaned up the mess. They said there were many emergencies that they had to deal with this morning like this. Power is out a lot of places from trees falling on power lines here on the SF coast and one of our house keepers house and his daughter's house is without power since 5 am this morning nearby too. So, we are just lucky to still have power. Our neighbor said many roads are still closed from trees falling but we don't have to go out today to brave this so I think we are okay unless I decide to take our dog to the beach for a walk to see the 20 foot waves from this storm.

Also, there is a King Tide right now so whenever you have a high tide in a King tide combined with rain and wind you also could have some flooding. However, I think I have had enough excitement for the day and I'm not going to go exploring to just see how bad it is around where I live right now. Also, I'm caring for my wife who is still recovering from an operation in November.

By the way if you are a tourist here on the coast during or after a storm like this you have to watch for sneaker waves.

One of the very worst things you can do is to climb out on rocks near the ocean where a sneaker wave and grab you off the rocks and pull you out to sea. This happens to several tourists not familiar with just how dangerous it is to go onto rocks near the ocean this time of year during storms to take pictures of the pretty huge waves.

Those waves when. sneaker wave comes in on rocks leave you nowhere to run to save your life and the water will take you into hypothermia and hallucinations this time of year from the coldness so people don't usually survive more than 15 minutes in these kinds of conditions without a wet or dry suit for surfing or Scuba diving in these present conditions once they are swept into the ocean.
