We left about 1/2 hour before the appointment thinking this would normally be enough time because it was early in the afternoon way before Rush hour traffic. but, instead of 1/2 hour because of heavy rains all the way there the same drive took almost an hour. Luckily, we could call ahead to make sure the doctor could still see my wife for her checkup and we made it within 5 minutes of when he was going to stop seeing patients. Neither of us could believe the traffic was such a mess this early in the day caused entirely by the weather. At least we didn't see any accidents. However, we saw many many trees down from the weather along the way.
Coming back I was going to take a short cut but realized going that direction there likely would be little or no traffic when I thought it through and I was right. Besides the short cut even though no freeways would be involved likely could have downed trees on the back roads way home. So, luckily I thought it through far enough to realize this.
What a mess! I can't imagine how bad this mess would have been during Rush hour because it was bad enough much earlier in the day when we tried to drive it.
When I returned home I realized there are still people running generators now since Saturday to the south of where we live.
Also, one of our gardeners hasn't had power since Saturday so he was going to have to go back to his home with no hot water or electricity or heat or anything after working out in the rain all day.
I'm so grateful I didn't have to start our generator up this weekend like thousands of others had to in our area of the coast near San Francisco. It's true a 100 foot tall pine tree came down in our neighbor's yard and into our yard and broke railings around our Hot Tub and damaged some of the deck but at least we kept our power and heating system running so we are warm (at least for now).
