Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky believes that Vladimir Putin’s greatest fear is losing power due to societal unrest and the Russian leader’s own inevitable demise.

In an interview with Eurovision News, Zelensky identified three main fears driving Putin’s actions.

According to the Ukrainian president, Putin’s first fear is his society.

“The destabilization of his society is what he fears. But no one will influence this – he will do it himself. His economy will suffer, sanctions will take a toll. He doesn’t control or protect all his territories,” Zelensky said.

Zelensky added that Western nations could intensify this pressure if they remain strong and committed.

“If they push Putin, he will face destabilization in his society, and he will fear it,” the Ukrainian President said.

The second of Putin’s fears identified by Zelensky is his own demise and Russia’s loss of power as a result.

“This also depends on the stability of his society, but also on his age. He will die soon – that’s a fact – and it will all be over,” Zelensky told Eurovision News.

Zelensky also claimed that Putin fears isolation, though efforts to cut him off politically have not been fully successful.

“It is very important that the US does not help him escape isolation, because that would be dangerous,” he said.

Poland Prepares Its People for War With Russia

Poland fears a war with Russia is only a matter of time and is preparing: plans include short courses for civilians, training for reservists, and defense lessons in schools.

Zelensky criticizes US envoy’s Kremlin narratives

During the interview, Zelensky criticized Steve Witkoff, the US President’s special envoy, for frequently repeating Kremlin talking points.

“I believe Witkoff often echoes Kremlin narratives. This does not bring us closer to peace and weakens American pressure on Russia,” Zelensky told Eurovision News. “We can only counter this with our actions, and we are trying to do so.”

Zelensky stressed that if the US chooses a neutral stance, it should remain truly neutral, not leaning toward Moscow.

“I always told Trump – we want the Americans to be on our side. And even if America today chooses to stay in the middle, then in the middle means in the middle, not closer to the Kremlin,” he added.

Russia’s Black Sea strategy

Zelensky also claimed that Russia seeks control of the Black Sea food corridor.

He asserted that a ceasefire in the Black Sea region is crucial for Moscow, as it has lost dominance there.

“We are fighting for this because it’s a step toward ending the war. But we control the situation in the Black Sea. Part of their fleet is at the bottom, or they are hiding,” Zelensky said.

“They were willing to negotiate a ceasefire on energy if it included energy and the Black Sea,” he added, emphasizing that Ukraine was prepared for a full ceasefire.

Zelensky believes the Kremlin will fail in its attempt to seize control of the Black Sea food corridor.

“We were ready for a full ceasefire. Fine, we agree on the Black Sea. But they just want to take control of the food corridor – they won’t succeed, we are absolutely certain of that,” he said.
