Safe in Santa Barbara

I had wanted to leave yesterday because there was no rain at all expected between storms but my wife and daughter and child were not ready yesterday so we drove mostly through drizzle a lot after King City heading south to Santa Barbara. As you move south it's true everything is incredibly green from the rains but the difference is when you move past Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo you realize the wild grasses are about 1/2 as high as they are north of there simply because there is less and less rain that has hit this rainy season south of there. Though our roses were blooming in Santa Barbara which is really nice I'm sort of concerned with Fires the rest of the year south of here. OF course there might be more rain to come too because with Global Climate changes anything is possible. But, in a normal year (before the serious global climate changes we almost never had any rain in California at all from about April or May until September or October at the earliest.

So, we will have to see what the future brings us all this year. One day at a time.

However, seeing everything so green driving south from the SF bay area was really nice and it was relatively sunny until past King City which was nice too. Also, people slowed down some because of the rains and winds and you could see trailers and high vehicles slowing down a lot so they wouldn't have an accident from the wind or blow over. But, all in all a very good trip south with no traffic problems at all the routes we took (MOSTLY highway101 along the coast of California to Santa Barbara.

If you were going to Los Angeles (even though it's not as pretty a drive) a more direct route and usually less time is to go down Interstate 5 to Los Angeles over the Grapevine.

But, if you are going from the Bay area to Los Angeles Interstate 5 is usually the best.

All in all a very good drive south to Santa Barbara.
