I was driving back with my daughter and grand daughter along the ocean and she said here in California: "Don't the waves and the height of the ocean seem higher and larger than normal?"
Yes. This is true often when there are earthquakes this size because it's sort of like dropping a boulder into a bath tub. The water splashes out of the tub and then reverberates for a long time both inside and outside of the tub of water. I also saw videos of people under a tall buildings swimming pool water coming down on top of them. Then I said to my daughter: "We don't know if they were okay or the water killed them in these videos (so we didn't know because all you could see was water from 20 or 30 stories up inundating these people. We also saw videos of a building 20 to 30 stories tall (along with the crane on top) come crashing down like we saw in 9-11 here in the U.S. in New York when all the people died in the twin towers there.
There are likely many more dead more than the 140 or more listed so far there because of collapsed buildings, collapsed bridges, things falling off of collapsing buildings onto people, car accidents caused by roads opening up and various other things.
After all 8.2 where this hit is the biggest quake to hit there in over 100 years now.
So, anyone on the coast anywhere touching the Pacific Ocean should be very careful of Tsunamis right now from Alaska to South America to all of the Asian Coast lines and also all along the West Coast of the U.S.
