Once again it is very unlikely tankers can be protected from Iran going through the straight of Hormuz. Why?

Because the channel deep enough for Oil Tankers to go through the Straight of Hormuz is only 1 to 2 miles in width (each direction). So, the practical possibility of any Oil Tanker that Iran wants to sink being protected is actually almost non-existent.

I think if you think of the oil Tankers as targets in a shooting gallery with a bunch of kids manning the guns might be the best analogy I can think of here.

Because practically and logistically slow moving targets like Oil Tankers are carrying so much weight they tend to go very slow (like under 10 knots an hour) especially if the channel they are going through is this narrow so they don't run aground and become an absolute target.

So, this is why you aren't getting countries to help the U.S. with this because it basically cannot be done in any useful way as long as any Iranians (even suicide Scuba diving Magnetic mine placing Iranians) are there in the Straight of Hormuz either above the water or hidden below the water using re-breathers like U.S. Navy Seals do to for these kinds of situations if they were mining ships instead of the Iranians.

Re-breathers leave no bubbles so you cannot even tell that the suicide Mine laying divers  are there most of the time.
