What percentage of oil does the U.S. import? Answer about 19 percent in 2017 numbers.

Since $5 gas per gallon is now $6 basically in California (or thereabouts) this makes sense regarding the approximately 20% or 1/5 of the imported oil. So, then 5 dollar gas becomes 6 dollar gas as a direct result.

 begin quotes:

Overall, the United States imports more than it exports, making it a net importer of petroleum. In 2017, imports provided 19% of the country's demand for petroleum. Most of the petroleum imported by the U.S. is crude oil (70-80% of total petroleum imports, varying slightly from year to year).
