When we bought our Subaru Ascent a few years ago during Chippageddon we bought our car in Glendale because they have the larges Subaru dealer in the U.S. there. So, instead of dealers having no car that we wanted to buy we had a choice of 12 which was great. So, my wife got the electric seats that she wanted and I got the automatic driving feature that I wanted so we were home free.
However, I used to hate driving in Traffic jams because of growing up in Los Angeles being stuck all the time (even in the extreme heat of summer) in los Angeles county Traffic jams for hours at a time where normally (when there was no traffic it might take you 15 minutes to an hour to get somewhere but in traffic jams it might take you 4 hours to go the same distance and just how frustrating that can be to live like that.
So, anyway, I trained myself to drive using the automatic driving feature and it is really wonderful in a traffic jam because mostly you have to do nothing but look around at the scenery. There is only one button on the steering wheel you have to be concerned about if the car stops for more than 20 seconds or so. then when people move forward at all you touch this one button and it drives itself. Wonderful!
However, in my family only my oldest daughter is like me where she is comfortable driving like this.
But, it is always there if you need it if you have the right reflexes to survive letting the car drive for you.
HOwever, it is a skill sort of like learning to ride a horse too.
The way I do this is to imagine a 5 year old child helping me steer the car so I have to be always on top of whatever happens.
Because if you take any other attitude you might crash or die. So, you have to always be supervising your automatic driving car in every situation to survive it. But, when it works it works great and makes me almost happy to be in a traffic jam because I have to do almost nothing as a driver which is great.
