when it starts to get warm is an indication that it could also catch fire. It doesn't matter what you are doing with it when it starts to get too hot on ANY area of it to touch. Just shut it down and then take it into a Computer store to repair it. I go to Apple Store usually because I run only apple Laptops and my wife has an old desktop Imac with a huge screen she likes to work on too. It's funny because she considers the Imac mine even though this is the one she chooses to use most of the time. She has a laptop like me for traveling (which we do a lot because we are retired).
However, what is important here is that if any battery in your phone or laptop or wherever starts getting hot you might want to shut it down for awhile and take it into your computer store to maybe have that battery replaced?
Warm is okay most of the time but hot where it starts to be too hot to touch you want to shut down whatever it is so you don't burn down your house or set the plane on fire or the passengers sitting next to you while flying at 30,000 to 40,000 feet altitude. Also, the fumes off a lithium ion battery are toxic to breathe and in a plane you are in an enclosed environment where you can't get away from the toxic fumes of a lithium ion battery consuming itself inside your laptop or phone
Also, everything in your laptop or phone likely would be gone when it burns up too possible forever unless it is stored in the Cloud somewhere too.
