SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Travelers in and out of Lindbergh Field were advised to check their flight status with their airlines Saturday amid cancellations and delays prompted by weather woes back east and in the Midwest.
At midday, the airport's website -- san.org -- showed handful of flights had been canceled and dozens were delayed. The cancellations and delays involved several airlines and a variety of destinations, including Boston, New York and Chicago.
More than 2,000 flights were cancelled nationwide Friday, the majority due to planes being held out of the storm-ravaged Chicago region and New England. Airline operations managers were casting wary on a blizzard headed toward Chicago tonight, which could further disrupt air travel.
"We're watching another winter storm system moving into the Chicago area tonight, and that one has the chance to really have an affect on the system," Southwest spokesman Dan Lansen said.
The San Diego airport's website showed delays for dozens of Southwest flights, which an airport spokeswoman said make up the majority of Lindbergh Field's traffic, but no cancellations.
USAirways spokesman Bill McGlashen said that some flights into San Diego on Friday were impacted because weather conditions were preventing connecting flights from Philadelphia to Phoenix.
"For us, today is a question of how do we manage the east-west flow," McGlashen said.
