Did Wooly Mammoths die out suddenly in a catastrophic freeze?

What could cause a "Sudden Freeze" like that? Where one day someone like a mammoth is eating flowers and the next moment that mammoth is frozen. I was thinking about this and wondering how it could even happen?

One thought of how this could happen is possibly a meteor hitting earth which could cloud the skies for a few years where no sun reaches the earth at all. This might suddenly drop temperatures enough to create something like this. But, even then would it happen that suddenly?

Because a Mammoth eating spring flowers and then freezing solid along with all of it's compatriots to the point where they go extinct. That's a little extreme to comprehend with the world we live in now.

However, understanding this since we too are now ripe for an ice age might be necessary for us who live in the right latitudes for another ice age.
