When I was young and growing up my parents were lay ministers and were very into "Positive Thinking". Sometimes I saw this as being useful and other times I thought of it while I was a child as being sort of crazy depending upon how different people used "Positive Thinking". It worked for my father because he was just so intelligent and scientific and logical and brilliant in his approach.
But, then there were people who had never been to college or studied really anything and so were highly illogical to begin with and for these people sometimes positive thinking wasn't productive and sometimes people like this just got ill and died.
So, there seems to be a basis to positive thinking and it is that, "If you aren't practical positive thinking might kill you."
The reason for this is simple. If you aren't based in physical reality and how things actually work if you overlay positive thinking upon only an idealist reality at best you are only going to get yourself into trouble, (unless you bring someone into your life that is practical that you can actually trust). But, most people aren't necessarily trustworthy if they are under 25 years of age because they haven't had enough life experience yet to necessarily understand all this. So, between ages about 12 and 25 this is a very difficult time because often it is sort of like "The blind leading the blind over a cliff like lemmings". And often when you are this age group you can't see the fact that you are being led over a potential cliff like lemmings to your doom.
So, the more practical and world wise you can be while young the more likely you will survive your 20s. By the time most people get into their 30s they know what they need to know to survive to at least 40. But after that, you better be really organized because if you aren't, dying is really easy in a variety of ways after 40 if you don't have your life together by then.
On the other hand a lot of life is also just about luck and positive thinking combined. Just try to be as practical as you can be at every point. Especially when you are young too much idealism tends to kill a lot of people both directly and indirectly.
So, be practical first and then use positive thinking to succeed.
