I heard about this guy building sustainable earthships years ago in Taos. He is into using tires and bottles and adobe and solar power to create self sustainable living for people. He is an architect and has likely been doing this now since the Viet Nam War so he has gotten better and better at this sort of thing. What he is interested in is having a large home with only maybe a $50 dollar or less utility bill. In the deserts (or literally anywhere) that the building codes will allow you to build things like this you can have sustainable living completely off the grid year around. The bottles hold the heat, The tires stacked properly are forms for the cement or adobe. The solar power arrays literally power everything in a desert sunny environment like this most of the time. So, anyone interested in learning about sustainable living with almost zero utilities should learn about what is possible form this guy. He started out in the 1960s and 1970s and people are really happy to meet him because he has been perfecting these skills now building more and more houses like this since
