When you grow up and learn about justice in School that is one thing. But the actuality about justice even in this United States is another thing entirely.
For example, most people don't know that if you don't make a plea bargain in a criminal trial whether you are guilty of anything or not there is a 90% chance you will be convicted once charges are brought against you.
However, this is not true in the South if it is a crime like murder of a white man killing a black man. In these kinds of cases the white man still today will tend to walk free. Whereas a black man charged with murder (whether he did it or not) will likely be sent to prison most of the time.
So, if you understand the probabilities, it is very likely (even today) that Zimmerman will walk free and since Travon Martin is not alive to bear witness to what actually happened Zimmerman can say basically anything in order not to go to jail. So, will justice be done in this case? Likely not.
However, understanding these things about our legal system might be helpful for more people to know around our country or for people visiting from other countries.
Though the justice system is now maybe 50% better than it was in the 1950s throughout the U.S. it is not 100% better than it was.
