Singularity University?

  1. As I was watching PBS NEWSHOUR the Afternoon of December 25th I discovered Singularity University. I became very interested in this educational system, especially at a graduate level because I live near the Bay area where this is located. So, anyone who lives on the coast of northern California likely could benefit in some way from this institution of higher learning. Here are some buttons about it or watch PBS NEWSHOUR from december 25th 2013 and watch the segment on Singularity University.

I think it is important to consider when anyone tries to solve the world's problems that there will always be many obstacles to this happening for both bad and good reasons. So, there is idealism and there is reality and the two are always far apart.

Can people invent things that might help mankind? Yes. They can. But will they be implemented in a way that is useful or helpful. That always remains to be seen.

For example, in 1965 my dream was for each person to have their own robot to go to work for them. Is that happening now we actually have robots? Well No. Because individuals generally don't own robots to work for them unless they own stock in companies who use or own or deploy robots to replace human workers.

But, once again my dream was not to replace workers but for humans to each own a robot to go to work for them and to support them. I suppose governments or countries could institute something like this and might have to to prevent tremendous increases in world wide starvation from lack of work caused by computers and robotics because the problem is getting worse worldwide by the day.
