It's not that such a war could take place now simply because of nuclear weapons in:
The U.S.
Russia
China
Germany
France
England
India
Pakistan
N. Korea
Japan?
Israel?
and many more potential countries who might have one or more nuclear weapons let alone terrorists waiting for the right moment.
So, if there is to be a world War III it won't be anything like world war II.
If you look at the Cold War:

This is a more likely scenario for the world to go into. However, it might be important to note that when real wars aren't allowed because of Nuclear wars like during the last Cold War things got very very twisted in new ways here on earth.
So, likely like Syria is twisted, like Iraq now is twisted, like Ukraine now is twisted, like the way relations between Viet Nam and China are twisted, like the relations between Japan and China are twisted, and China and Malaysia, And China and the Philippines, And China and the U.S. etc. etc. etc.
Any one of these present diplomatic conflicts could cause more deaths any moment either of civilians or military personnel.
So, understanding that a state of war already exists between many nations in a historical sense while also understanding that those kinds of wars cannot be allowed to happen because of nuclear weapons is also important to understand as well.
So, expect things now worldwide to get twisted in a way you and I haven't seen since before the Soviet Union collapsed worldwide. And that is a given at present given all historical attributes brought forward into the present.
