Why aren't news outlets saying why Iraqi Army is throwing down their arms on TV?

In listening to CNN I realized people aren't talking about WHY Iraqi soldiers are dropping their arms before ISIL.

So, even though it is too horrific to be mentioned on CNN I thought it important for people to actually know what is happening there.

Two things:

First, most Iraqi Army Officers are Sunnis and ISIL is also Sunni
Also, Maliki is Shia and most Sunnis are very very upset with him.

2nd. People are being beheaded who fight ISIL. They took a video of
a Police commander and put it on the Internet of them slowly cutting his head off
with a knife and posted it for all police and soldiers to see.

Also, ISIL is not only killing soldiers but also killing their families as well.

So, if you combine all these facts and the fact that most Sunni officers want Maliki to go
the Army officers of the Iraq army are not only leaving their posts but also joining ISIL temporarily  to get rid of the Maliki government.

Though I understand what is happening is horrific if you don't understand why it is happening the news is just sort of jibberish and not much else.

Imagine you are an Iraqi soldier and a Sunni. You absolutely hate Maliki and his government and you are told by another Sunni in ISIL, "IF you don't throw down your arms we are going to behead not only you but also all your family." What do you do then?

This is what is actually going on now on the ground.

So, things like this are not new in history but they are just as historically effective as they always were.

So, now what do civilized nations do about it?

So, when the news says something like, "We don't know why the IRaq army is dropping it's weapons!"
It is just sort of a lie. They know why they are just not telling the public about it because "It's not nice!"
