I was listening to PBS Newshour and sort of horrified with the idea of replacing Coal Fired Power plants with Nuclear power plants. It was mentioned the China intends to build 30 nuclear power plants right now in China. For me, it's sort of like saying, "Out of the frying pan and into the fire."
After the 25,000 year disaster that Fukushima nuclear power plant is from the 3 meltdowns there I am incredulous that people still want to build nuclear power plants. Because China has a lot of Earthquakes too and if a bad one hits a nuclear power plant you can just kiss about 300 to 500 square miles of land goodbye (sort of like Chernobyl and Fukushima).
So, the logic of replacing coal fired plants escapes me. However, people down wind of Beijing likely would prefer China to have Nuclear power plants rather than coal fired ones because they are killing 4400 people a day along with other pollution in Bejing right now. If you are 500 miles (not downwind or not down stream) it might be beneficial for another country to have a nuclear power plant as long as it is not near your country.
However, I think in the end it depends upon how people want to die? Do they want to suffocate or do they want to radiate to death?
I suppose it's all a matter of choice in the end.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
