The cause of the end of the Draft I can see from living through it was an end of trust of our government. At the end of World War II it was 77% trusted the U.S. government.
However, now the trust in the U.S. Congress hovers around 11% or less and even the president isn't trusted that much (somewhere between 20% to 50% of the people trust the president on any given day).
So, faith in the U.S. government is gone or doesn't exist at all ever anymore.
This is bad in many ways for our country but happened because of these specific things:
1. Cuban Missile Crisis (where we all thought we were going to die for 13 days or more)
2. Kennedy Assassination (likely caused by people unhappy with the outcome of the Cuban Missile Crisis)
3. No one has believed the government has belonged to the American people ever since.
4. Who controls the government?
5. I'm not sure anyone really knows anymore that is an average citizen.
6. The Viet Nam war really ended trust on top of Kennedy being assassinated and the Cuban Missile Crisis.
7. Black people don't trust the government because the police often just shoot them unarmed. Though this has always happened, now people video this on their phones so it is no longer a rumor of it happening. You can see it on videos in the news every single day.
8. White people are freaked out because they are becoming a minority in the nation they founded.
9. All of these things and more are why people don't trust the government of the U.S. to take care of them or be honest with them anymore.
10. For Democrats people have felt better with Obama in the White House ending wars.
But, what happens when he is gone?
And will ISIS be gone before he leaves the White House?
