Background Checks for buying guns are important

I actually agree with what Obama is doing wanting gun show dealers to have to do background checks on gun buyers just like Stores all over the U.S. have to.

Also, these background checks do not apply to parents giving guns to children or friends trading guns or buying guns from neighbors. It Only applies right now to gun shows.

It also doesn't apply to gun collectors selling guns to each other. So, it only affects people who are selling guns for a living in shows who often are people who own Gun Stores some place as well.

When I was growing up my first .22 rifle was given to me by my grandmother who grew up in Texas and she likely was 12 to 15 years of age by 1900. My grandfather was born in 1877 in Kansas and was at least 13 in 1900 as well. So, guns were something people gave to children sort of like we give bicycles now or a shovel or a rake. It was simply a tool for protecting and feeding the family.

And guns were given especially to boys they trusted not to shoot anyone who wasn't an intruder into their home or a burglar, rapist or murderer. So, being given a gun still in the 1950s was a very big honor because you were deemed "Worthy" of protecting the family and hunting for food when necessary or for sport.

So, this was the way it was when I grew up. However, since the 1960s people have been a lot more crazy from drugs like LSD and other drugs which have changed a lot of people. So, I think many more are being killed today partly because of the drug culture that started in the 1960s and after here in the U.S.

So, background checks help keep more people alive here in the U.S.

However, it is important to realize many people don't buy the guns they use in mass killings but borrow them or buy them through the black market from illegal gun dealers in vans in big cities.

There is no way to stop illegal gun dealers. There is no way to stop people from "Borrowing" the guns of friends or relatives for mass killings. There is no way now to stop mass murderers who are going to go down illegal paths to get their guns.

However, at least Obama is doing something to try to keep guns from getting into the wrong hands.

And I think this sends a message to the American people that though the NRA can hold Congress hostage they cannot hold the American People hostage too.

And it is important for you to realize I believe everyone mentally healthy should have a gun here in the U.S. to protect their families and our way of life in an emergency.

However, I am also realistic enough to realize crazy people shouldn't have guns in their possession even for a day. This is also true of people who are normal who are just having a psychotic episode that day or week in their lives.

So, there is protecting our country and our families and then there is protecting all of us from being killed by crazy or temporarily psychotic people unnecessarily.
