I think it might be because my parents were ministers while I was growing up that I became someone that always put people first before money. It's not that money isn't important too, it's just that often in my 20s if I saw a friend having difficulty staying alive psychologically I might quit a job and make sure that they didn't off themselves. Because I was having trouble staying alive too between 21 and 25. So, in saving others I also saved myself.
I have never forgot my roots by the way. I also have helped my friends and relatives whenever it was appropriate. Don't get me wrong I'm also a consummate survivor. I'm the kind of person that if a plane crashed and only 4 people survived I would always be one of those 4 people. My relatives were always pioneers here in the U.S. going back to 1725 when they first landed by boat in Philadelphia up the river there. So, from there we moved north, south, east and west until my grandfather bought a house in Seattle in 1927 and my father moved us to San Diego in 1952. And the rest is history.
So, putting people first has always been the most important thing for me that I have my parents to thank for thinking this way.
