Mostly if you can read subtitles in your native language fast enough you are going to prefer subtitles. Why?
Because it is kind of wonderful to hear it in the native language the movie was made while being able to understand it with subtitles.
When I grew up it was all dubbing which could be either fairly good or pretty humorous. For example, the worst dubbing often was in Italian or Spanish language movies and often people watched these movies in theaters as much to laugh at the dubbing as to watch Hercules tear down the temple and get all the girls.
But now, people are much better educated and more world travelers than they were in the 1950s when people were generally much more ignorant worldwide than now.
So, with many many more educated people subtitles are all the rage at least here in the U.S.
To the best of my ability I write about my experience of the Universe Past, Present and Future
