I think effectively Facebook declared Trump both mentally ill and a threat to civilized people all over the world? Does this mean his followers are mentally ill too? That's hard to say really. It might mean his followers have PTSD or just are gullible to lies because that is what they were fed all their lives by people around them so that's all they know.
I'm not sure that qualifies a person as crazy or mentally ill or not. Sometimes you have to just survive the people that raised you who might believe literally anything. What you actually believe in your heart of hearts might be completely different. You are just trying to survive the people you grew up with and that's all.
I remember when my father handed me a leaflet that advocated sending all black people back to Africa and all Jewish people back to Europe or Israel. I was completely creeped out as an 8 or 10 year old child. I knew inherently that this wasn't right. Was I going to confront my father because I thought this was crazy when I was 8 or 10? Probably not. Because my own survival might be at stake too.
I think this is how you often have to view these things. In people's hearts they might believe almost anything, but they still have to survive the people they are married to and their children and grandchildren and who knows what people actually believe no matter what they give lip service to?
And in regard to my father, once he changed his religion to a less radical conservative one he took on more like a view of JFK (president john F. Kennedy) and had an entirely different point of view than this one which he had been brainwashed by his father to believe too by the way growing up.
I didn't buy into the racist point of view that earlier generations had believed in. But, what most people don't understand now was that it wasn't just racist it was also about not trusting anyone different than your own tribe of people so to speak. People think it as always about blacks and whites but that's not it. It was about anyone of a different race or ethnic group or nationality different than your own. If someone was different in ANY way from you in the 1950s they might not survive going into another ethnic area (especially if they were younger than 20) and not on their own turf. (Turf just means where you live, your area).
So, if you went to another area than where you lived (and this could be only blocks from where you lived) you might get knifed or killed in the 1950s so you were very careful where you went if you wanted to stay alive then.
If you watch "West Side Story" you begin to get a better idea of just how crazy it was then especially in big cities.
