Every year you stay alive might buy you 10 more if you are over 65 and on Medicare

We have an eye doctor and his wife who is retired across the street and he said to me one day: "Isn't Medicare Amazing?" And my answer was "Yes".

Because it is. For example, when my appendix burst in early 2015 around Easter I didn't have to pay more than 1500 dollars out of pocket for that operation. It likely would cost if you had to actually pay for it maybe 40,000 to 80,000 dollars. So, now you get how wonderful Medicare actually can be.

So, as long as it exists each year you stay alive (because of ongoing medical advances) you might be buying yourselves 10 more years of life.

Now, if you want to die and have had enough of this world that's one thing. But, if your life is still worth living instead of dying you might just take advantage of what Medicare has to offer in longevity in your lives.

Some people are workaholics and often they work themselves to death and don't do well in retirement at all. My father was like this.

However, I like being retired. I can visit my friends and travel when I'm well enough and see people and do interesting things. Like right now I'm in Santa Barbara several hours south of San Francisco by car. I got to see the sun and experience temperatures so far up to around 91 degrees and do all sorts of other things.

Retirement can be amazing as long as you allow about 5 years to adjust to being retired. It's a pretty big psychological adjustment for almost everyone. But, once you have your new disciplines and diets and exercise regimes and things you want to do with your time it can be wonderful most of the time. It's true Covid brought new challenges and we are all still trying to make sense of our lives after the last year or so.

That's a universal truth all over the earth right now.
