Running power from your generator through a 30 amp transfer switch is still too dangerous for most people

You can use the F-150's generator as your personal electric utility in two ways. In the most elegant scenario, you'd run a cable from the 30-amp, 240-volt outlet in the bed to a 30-amp transfer switch and directly power selected circuits in your house. No extension cords, no breaking out your World's Greatest Dad table lamp to light your kitchen counter. I do not have a transfer switch. So, extension cords it is.

My father taught me the electrical trade and I still wouldn't use a transfer switch. I simply find that there is always something you are going to forget which could start an electrical fire doing something like this (like when the power comes back on to your home after an electrical outage from something like a tree falling into your power lines.

So, I find it's best to just leave well enough alone and run generator power ONLY through orange cords into my kitchen through the garage. This way:

1. If the power goes back on it can. (from the power lines)

and

2. You don't forget something and blow up your generator and start a fire.

I find keeping it simple keeps you and your family alive and well.
