If you study Asian religions everything has a soul including bugs and fish. Also, when Gyaltrul Rinpoche first arrived in the U.S. he was down at the ocean preaching compassion to the star fish. This caused people to take him to the UCLA psychiatric center where they found out he was a Tibetan Lama and that this was a perfectly normal thing for a Tibetan Lama to be doing.
So, many Eastern religions believe that literally everything is alive and has a soul like animals, birds, trees plants. Literally everything is alive with a soul if you listen to most Asian religions. This is why if you ask me if animals like your dog or cat have souls My answer would likely be: probably, they do!
