Why is this so problematic?
Because this could mean that more people (at least in Germany) are going to die of Covid this year and this winter than last winter. This is a very bad precedent for the whole world.
It's true each country seems to have it's own Covid Wave cycle but if Germany who is usually very strict about Covid protocols is having this problem it also might mean it is a very ongoing dangerous time for Covid worldwide too even in the most developed of countries who can afford to vaccinate all their people.
And in 3rd world nations this might also mean a worse covid season than last winter too worldwide.
Could it get worse than this season?
Yes. Potentially if we don't vaccinate everyone on earth New Variants could arise get so bad that no one would survive those variants and that no vaccine would be possible to stop it killing people.
And this could get so bad that human civilization (at least as we have known it since the 1800s) is gone or severely interrupted.
Supply chains are just the tip of the iceberg so to speak of what could happen if enough people keep dying worldwide.
