A four-foot tsunami wave was reported to have hit Tonga’s capital, Nuku’alofa, sending people rushing to higher ground, and witnesses said ash had fallen from the sky. There were no immediate official reports on the extent of injuries or damages, but internet service in the country was disrupted, according to The Associated Press, making it difficult to assess.
Despite Tonga’s geographical isolation, a booming sound after the initial eruption was heard as far away as New Zealand, 1,100 miles southwest of the archipelago’s main island of Tongatapu.

If you heard the boom of the eruption in New Zealand, New Zealand is 2,382 km or 1480.10618 miles away from each other. So, it sort of seems like if you didn't put your fingers in your ears when this thing hit you might have gone deaf.
Also, if a 4 foot wave tsunami hit that is very serious because this would be on top of whatever waves were hitting at the time. A tsunami is more like a raising of sea level so if you raise the sea level 4 feet all of a sudden on land that is very serious on most islands because most people live closer to the water and so are very vulnerable to something like this.
