If you have never stood next to an adult moose it is a very humbling experience because they are so huge! 10 feet tall isn't unusual for a Moose!

For

those of you out there who haven't stood next to an adult moose I wanted to give you some perspective of just how big an adult moose really is and why you need to be careful around them.

For example, I'm basically 6 foot 5 inches tall and the top of my head only came up to the shoulder of a teenage moose. I have seen a moose with a rack of horns about 7 to 10 feet wide and they know how to use them. You need to be very careful around them because of their size and strength, especially the adult males but also females with young.

I was just standing there with my 15 year old son backpacking in Teton national park years ago and a teenage Moose walked by and I felt really uncomfortable because it came within 5 feet of me and my head only went at most up to it's shoulder at that.

That day rangers had warned us of a Grizzly bear harassing people near our backpacking campsite there in the Tetons so I had sent my wife and two daughters back to our window van for safety while my 15 year old son and I broke camp and carried everything back to our window van when this huge teenage Moose walked by us. When you are in the wilderness you have to be ready for almost anything from funny Marmots which we also saw a lot of on this trip or Grizzly bears or Moose or Elk (which are pretty big too) along the way.
