When my cousin started his own business, he did so after his mentor died of a heart attack at 42 from overwork. This affected my cousin a lot and he realized that he needed to do something different than his mentor when he started his own business. He decided to work 4 days a week instead of 5 and to work 4 10 hour days instead of 5- 8 hour days.
This worked for him so he is still working a 4 day week at 80 in his business. This way he works 4 days and then takes 3 days a week off. As his children grew up over the years he was able to spend more time with his children and his friends AND he had 3 days a week to recreate with them and his wife. This lengthened his life and made his life so much better that he is still happy to work 4 days a week now he is 80.
Working 4 days a week won't work for everyone but so far my cousin has worked pretty much since 1968 4-10 hours a day except for vacations 54 years so far and he still loves his work even after all these years.
