Though the sky was a little cloudy when we got there it still was warm enough to get into the 81 degree water there and snorkel. I found it a little hard getting into the water there simply because as soon as this type of beach sand gets passed the wet point to the totally soaked point of the ocean you sink it 6 inches to a foot down into the sand. So, it's a little hard to make this adustment. My wife has a knee replacement so I held her hand while we did this there. Then we both had boogie boards for safety. However, because I'm tall there were only a few places where I couldn't touch my toes to the sandy bottom there. I guess many storms have brought more sand into this area over the last 3 years since we were here last.
Originally Lydgate park on Kauai was built mostly for children. However, I believe over time the sea rose as it is all over the world and it has become more of an adult place than a children's place as the area of ocean got bigger and bigger. The main advantage to swimming or snorkeling here is that there are NO SHARKS because they have enclosed this area with large lava rocks so the sharks are completely kept out of this area and the waves can break over the lava rocks or seep through them to bring more fresh ocean water into the now completely safe swimming area.
However, I think 3 years ago I did see a barracuda in the swimming area but this is the largest fish I have seen there. I noticed there were less tropical fish there than the last time I was there but there are still schools of tropical fish in Lydgate park in the protected area.
Here is the air temperature range for the week there. The water they said yesterday was 81 degrees which was nice.
Also, Hawaii time is three hours earlier than Pacific Time. So, if it's 10:36 Pacific time it's 7:36 am Hawaii time which is what it is right now here.
