Why was Celibacy instituted in the Catholic Church?

It was a way to control the wealth and to make the church richer. If there were no children from priests then the wealth of the church did not have to be shared by their wives and children and grandchildren and so the church could prosper unheeded. This was the main practical reason no matter what anybody said otherwise.
