First of all, Water doesn't work on for example, Tesla Car batteries so extinguishing an EV fire can
take up to 12 hours and this fire could reignite given the properties of Electric Car batteries. So, even if you put out an electric car fire it could theoretically reignite after fire engines leave and ignite even more vehicles both EV and gas and diesel which could also theoretically ignite whole groups of homes or businesses as well after the fire engines have put out the main fires in that area.
So, electric Vehicles have become a serious new nightmare mostly because Water doesn't put the fires out in the batteries at all and even if you put the fire out in the batteries they could reignite 12 hours later.
This also likely means that things like Tesla Batteries used in Conjunction with Solar panels installed on houses and businesses also have these same problems since they are lithium ion batteries usually too.
Firemen have said that it could take a whole swimming pool of water to put out ONE EV Car fire completely so it doesn't keep reigniting over 12 to 24 hours. And even then it could potentially reignite after that as well because of the nature of Lithium ion batteries.
So, this is a new nightmare that firemen around the world have dealt with and will deal with long into the future.
The other problem is that these batteries also give off Hydrogen gas which is also both flammable and potentially explosive which is an added problem for both firemen and the public if one of these things catches fire or explodes when people are nearby or even if no one is nearby and new fires are started from these batteries which then spread to other cars or homes or businesses.
