The Hughes Fire (500 acres and presently growing since this morning?) is north of Six Flags amusement park in California

It is to the left of Interstate 5 so this could be a problem if it closes interstate 5 ongoing which is the main thoroughfare Freeway from San Diego to Seattle all the way to Vancouver in Canada. So, if the fire closes Interstate 5 because it crosses this freeway this could be a problem for interstate travelers. However, they could also come over to the coast and travel south on 101 to avoid the fire and smoke too. However, fires on Interstate 5 whether they are north of Redding or from Castaic South are pretty common over the years especially in Southern California with high winds during a Santa Ana wind event like now.

Note: Actually I just found out in doing some research that the fire is in the Castaic lake region and is presently sparsely populated and is actually to the north east of Interstate 5 at least for now. However, the wind is out of the northeast and this fire could easily burn across Interstate 5 and close it for awhile. The weather man said that there is also danger of it going into more populated areas than it is presently in since the wind is blowing towards the ocean from the northeast at present unless they get this under control. However, because firefighters have access to Castaic Lake and Castaic Lagoon they will likely have access to water to put this fire out as long as the winds aren't so strong that they can't put water dropping helicopters into the air to fight the fire there.

The temperature in Castaic is 68 degrees right now with a solid 15 mph constant wind with gusts above that which isn't good for any fire and the humidity at present is 9% which is really bad under these conditions too.

But, for the present it appears that Interstate 5 is still open.
