Yes. I have always noticed this too. The reason for this is that often heavy rains can fall at night, especially between Midnight and dawn and the sound of mudslides isn't very great until they are already upon you. This is how about 25 people died in Montecito in January 2nd I believe in 2018. This was a real nightmare because Montecito is an extremely wealthy area where people like Jeff Bridges, Oprah Winfrey and Steve Martin and many others live. In fact Jeff Bridges and his wife had to be rescued by Helicopter because mud was covering all roads around their house at that time.
So, this time of year when there are bad fires especially in Southern California the most people usually don't die in fires because you can see them even at night and people will call the fire department and sirens will be running.
The problem is that mud and rock slides have no warning when they happen. Sometimes the rain causes them and sometimes it doesn't.
This is why more people die of mud and Rock Slides at night than get burned up in fires because even if it is raining you don't know when it is going to happen. There are many factors in place for a mud or rock slide to begin.
But, because of the mountains of Pacific Palisades and the Mountains of Altadena up close to the Angeles National Forest I think people should expect many deaths if the rains come down really hard in the next couple of months (if they do) at night because many people might die if the rain comes down too fast in mud and rock slides out of the hills and mountains of Los Angeles County.
